Older stone properties can have thick, uneven walls and floors, which need experience to work with when fitting a bathroom. Eckington is one of North East Derbyshire's older settlements, with a historic church and stone-built properties at its centre and the Moss Valley's countryside on its doorstep. It sits close to the Sheffield border, and the village has expanded with interwar, post-war and newer housing over the years. Older stone properties need a careful approach when fitting a bathroom, walls aren't always straight, floors may need levelling, and pipework may have been altered several times. That's exactly where Scott's 20 years of experience counts. Common issues ## Problems we seein Eckington homes ### Uneven walls and floors Older stone homes rarely have perfectly straight walls, which affects how suites and enclosures fit. ### Damp and condensation Older properties can suffer from condensation in bathrooms. Ventilation is worth discussing at the quote visit. ### Older pipework Pipework that's been altered over many years can need care during a refit. ### Leaks Small leaks spread quickly in older homes with timber floors. ### Weather, water and older buildings Winter weather brings cold snaps, and homes in Eckington are no exception. Pipes in lofts, garages, outbuildings and on outside walls are the most at risk of freezing. Outside taps that can be isolated and drained from inside the house, and pipework that's properly fitted and protected, go a long way to avoiding burst pipes. In older buildings, water problems are often hidden. A slow leak from a worn bath seal can soak a timber floor for months before a stain shows on the ceiling below. In newer homes, compact en-suites and showers take heavy daily use, and seals and trays start to wear. In both cases, getting it checked early is almost always cheaper than repairing the damage later. When we strip out an old bathroom in Eckington, Scott will tell you exactly what he finds. If anything unforeseen turns up, we stop and discuss it with you before going ahead; so the fixed price you agreed stays the price you plan around. How it works ## Our process in Eckington - 01 ### Free quote visit Scott comes out to your home, measures up and talks through the layout with you. He'll tell you honestly what will work with the space, where the pipework can and can't go, and what will give you the best result for your budget. - 02 ### Fixed-price quote You receive a fixed price for the installation. That price doesn't creep up halfway through. If something unforeseen turns up once the old bathroom is stripped out, we stop and talk it through with you before any extra work goes ahead. - 03 ### Options and samples Once you've accepted the quote, Laura sends over options for you to choose from. Depending on your selections, a home visit with samples follows, for example flooring options or aqua panels, so you can see them in your own light before anything is ordered. - 04 ### Installation by the same team Scott carries out the work with the same trusted team he uses on every job. Laura keeps you updated on what's happening and when, and the space is left clean and tidy at the end of each day. - 05 ### Handover and guarantee Everything is checked and run before we leave. Your installation is backed by our 2-year workmanship guarantee, and manufacturer warranties apply to the products themselves. For smaller plumbing jobs in Eckington, taps, toilets, leaks, radiators and outside taps, the process is simpler: tell us what's wrong, Scott takes a look and explains the fix, and the work is charged at £80 per hour + VAT + parts, backed by the same 2-year workmanship guarantee.
